By Honorary Reporters Salwa and Esraa Elzeny from Egypt
Ten years ago, we began a journey we never imagined would last this long, full of passion, discovery and personal growth. We were just two young sisters who shared a deep love for Korean culture, watching K-dramas and listening to K-pop that pulled at our heartstrings.

In 2015, Salwa became the first Egyptian accepted into Korea.net's Honorary Reporters program, followed soon after by Esraa. Together, we began our adventure writing about Korea and its culture.
Writing for Korea.net wasn't just about sharing our passion, it became a big responsibility. The program's significant evolution taught us to transform our enthusiasm into professional journalism. In 2024, we attended workshops taught by journalism experts in Korea and abroad, plus completed monthly assignments that enhanced our writing, photography and interviewing skills.
A highlight in 2016 was our selection to the list of the top 12 Honorary Reporters worldwide and earning a trip to Korea. We experienced everything we'd only seen on TV like wearing Hanbok at Gyeongbokgung Palace, walking along the Hangang River at sunset and exploring open-air markets.

Throughout our decade with Korea.net, we've met remarkable individuals including former first lady Kim Jung-sook in January 2022 during her visit to Egypt. We interviewed artist Kang Ik-joong, whose work combining Korean and Arabic writing was displayed at the "Forever Is Now" exhibition near the Pyramids at Giza.
We've also explored Korean culture through food by participating in cooking classes at the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo and interviewing renowned chef Judy Joo. We also took part in cultural exchanges like the Egypt-Korea Digital Ambassador, Global Seoul Mates and K-Supporters.

Over the years, we've received multiple awards for our work with Honorary Reporters, and this encourages us to continue creating content that promotes cultural understanding. While our journey hasn't been without challenges, each obstacle strengthened our determination to share Korea's rich culture with the world.
In 2025, as we celebrate our 10th year as Honorary Reporters, our love for Korea remains unwavering. This journey isn't just an experience but a testament to how culture can break down walls and build bridges between nations.
