The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has released over 100,000 pieces of information on its Public Data Portal.

The ministry on Feb. 19 said the list of public data released on the portal (www.data.go.kr) since its launch in 2013 surpassed 102,000.

The volume of public data released on the portal skyrocketed from just 5,272 cases in 2013 to 102,052 last month.

The data utilized was most concentrated in continuous cadastral maps, followed in order by information on the foreign exchange rate, air pollution, administration of cities, provinces and districts, and short-term weather forecasts.

The number of mobile apps and web services created using data released on the portal was 3,131, with 200-300 entries added every year.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has also recognized the excellence of the nation's policy toward open data.

For the fourth straight year, Korea ranked No. 1 in the OECD's Open, Useful and Re-usable Data Index and topped the organization's open government category.

"Based on our results thus far, we will keep releasing artificial intelligence (AI)-friendly public data," the ministry said. "We will enforce an open data policy that meets the needs of the public and business."
