From park trails to city streets, I love exploring everyday life in Seoul and Incheon. I take alternative routes to discover historical and cultural sites and meet amazing people. For fans of urban exploration and cityscape photography, these routes are perfect for seeing Seoul and Incheon.

Seoul Station to Sangdo-dong

Embark on an unforgettable journey from Seoul Station to the capital's Sangdo-dong neighborhood. Start at the station, the national hub for all train lines, and explore hidden spots and unique sculptures amid breathtaking architecture. Wander down Hangang-daero Road and discover parks, museums and galleries along the way. And don't miss the War Memorial of Korea plus the Amorepacific Museum of Art (closed until March to prepare for an exhibition), which blends traditional and contemporary art.

Before reaching Ichon Hangang Park, hit nearby sites like Yongsan History Museum, National Museum of Korea and the headquarters of Hybe, the management agency for K-pop sensation BTS. Further down the street is the Hangang Bridge for stunning views of the city and parks along the river. Don't forget a camera, headphones and favorite playlist.

Around 500 m across the bridge lies Nodeul Island, a place that hosts concerts and events. Relax with a stroll or picnic, eat snacks from a convenience store or explore more by walking another 2 km.

Grab a meal before crossing the bridge to Nodeulnaru Park. Go up the hill to Sangdo-dong for an authentic taste of daily life in Seoul.

Seoul Forest

To truly enjoy Seoul Forest, dedicate a full day to visit. Disconnect from smartphones and spend time there alone or with friends. Opened in 2005, the park offers attractions like Cultural Art Park, Ecological Forest, Nature Experience Study Field, Wetlands Ecological Field and Hangang River Park.

Start at Gallery Garden for peaceful solitude, go to the lively Butterfly and Insect Garden in spring and summer, and take a serene walk in the Ecological Forest, where deer can be spotted. Explore the nature and wetlands fields for insight into park ecosystems.

Finally, see views at Hangang River Park near Seoul Forest; a path leads to the river. Ideal for picnics, biking or relaxation. Seoul Forest offers something for everyone like peaceful escapes, nature exploration and scenic photography.

From COEX Mall to Yangjae-dong

I discovered this course after a wrong turn but it turned into one of my best experiences in Seoul. After exploring COEX Mall, I followed a crowd in Gangnam-gu District, a calm oasis in the bustling city. Behind Metasequoia Road is Yangjaecheon Stream Trail, a favorite for jogging, walking and picnicking, especially during cherry blossom season. The route ends at Yangjae Station, where visitors can keep walking to Seoul Arts Center, Yangjae Citizens' Forest and Yangjae Flower Market.

Incheon route

Finally, my infamous 25-km trek without mobile data or Wi-Fi is often joked about by my friends and family. I started at Incheon Station and the city's vibrant Chinatown, whose ornate gate and unique architecture were unforgettable. Walking in Chinatown through its zodiac statues and street art leads to Jayu (Freedom) Park. I saw a monument symbolizing Korea's friendship with the U.S. complete with a stunning view of the Port of Incheon.

Passing Jajangmyeon Museum, which highlights the popular dish jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), I reached Incheon Art Platform to see outdoor installations by Incheon-based artists. Despite getting lost in the unique architecture there, I enjoyed strolling among pastel pink bricks, historical houses and charming cafes.

I took a quick turn and made probably the best "mistake" during my visits to Korea. I reached Songam Art Museum, realizing I was off the beaten path near an artificial lake with no subway station nearby. Remembering the map, I headed toward distant glass towers hoping it was Songdo Island. Eventually, I reached Songdo Moonlight Park, a journey better suited for bikes but still memorable thanks to its many dining options, cafes and shops.
